This carved lebrillo is a solid, compact home for Agayú, about 8 by 8 by 12 inches. It fits on a shelf or canastillero while still giving his otanes the wooden vessel tradition calls for.
What is a lebrillo de Agayú?
A lebrillo is the wooden vessel where Agayú's otanes and fundamento are kept in Lucumí practice. Like his son Changó, Agayú lives in wood rather than porcelain, which ties him to the earth he holds up.
Who is Agayú?
Agayú (also written Aggayú, Agallú or Argallú) is the Orisha of the volcano, the deep force of the earth and the river crossing. He's known as a giant of great strength, the ferryman who carries people across difficult waters, and in many houses he's considered the father of Changó. In Cuban tradition he's syncretized with San Cristóbal, patron saint of Havana.
Why choose this size?
- Fits most spaces: about 8 x 8 x 12 inches.
- Carved wood: the traditional material for Agayú.
- A good value: a more affordable choice than our pedestal lebrillo.
