In Santería (La Regla de Ocha), “los Guerreros” refers to a sacred set of warrior Orishas and the ritual tools associated with them. Receiving Los Guerreros is one of the first major initiatory steps for a practitioner.

Who Are the Guerreros?

The core group includes:

1. Elegguá (Elegua)

• The guardian of the roads and crossroads.

• Opens and closes every path in life, and no ceremony happens without him.

• Brings opportunities, protection, and communication with the divine.

2. Ogun

• The Orisha of iron, war, tools, and labor.

• Represents strength, work, and progress.

• Protects against enemies and obstacles.

3. Ochosi

• The hunter Orisha.

• Represents justice, precision, and focus.

• Works closely with Ogun.

4. Osun (Ossun)

• A metal staff with a rooster on top that symbolizes vigilance.

• Not an Orisha received like the others; rather, it is a guardian that alerts the practitioner to spiritual or physical danger.

• If it falls, it is considered a serious warning.
