Changó Pilón 5 – Ceremonial Wooden Mortar for Shango
Approx. 10" × 10" × 21" | Handcrafted Wood
The Pilón de Changó is one of the most sacred and recognizable ceremonial objects in La Regla de Ocha. Traditionally used to house, prepare, and present offerings to Shango — the Orisha of thunder, fire, justice, and kingship — this wooden mortar is an essential piece for any practitioner building or maintaining a proper Shango throne.
Who is Changó?
Shango (Changó) is among the most powerful and widely venerated Orishas in the Lucumí/Yoruba tradition. Once a historical king of the Yoruba city of Oyo, he was deified after his death and now governs thunder, lightning, fire, drumming, and divine justice. He is the force that punishes liars, protects the righteous, and reminds us that true authority is earned — not taken.
His colors are red and white. His sacred tool is the double-headed axe (Oshe). His energy is fire.
About This Pilón
The Changó Pilón serves both a ritual and symbolic role on the altar. It is used to grind and prepare herbs, offerings, and sacred ingredients aligned with Shango's Ashé. Its presence on the throne communicates devotion, readiness, and spiritual alignment with the King of Orishas.
