Pilón 5 is a carved wooden throne for Changó, about 10 by 10 inches at the base and 21 inches tall. It gives his batea a solid seat above the floor, the way the king of the Orishas should be honored.
What is a pilón used for?
In La Regla de Ocha the pilón is shaped like a wooden mortar. Changó's batea, which holds his otanes and oshe, rests on top of it. Many houses also use it to present his offerings, such as amalá and fruit, during ceremonies and feast days.
Who is Changó?
Changó is the Orisha of thunder, fire, drumming and justice, remembered as a king of Oyo. His colors are red and white, and he's honored on December 4, the feast of Santa Bárbara, his Catholic counterpart in Cuba.
Who is this pilón for?
- Receiving Changó: a base for his batea from day one.
- A second altar: a well priced option for a home that already has a main throne.
- Celebrations: it raises Changó for tambores and santo anniversaries.
